A Prospect is any minor league player who has yet to accrue 50IP or 150ABs in the MLB.
Prospects will cost nothing until they accrue the minimum requirements above. Once fulfilled, they shall cost $0k for the remainder of that season, and will be protected at that cost for the following four seasons. (Note: If a player who is considered PP has a season where they do not accrue 1AB or .1IP, then they shall gain another full year of protected status)
For example:
SS Jurickson Profar received 17 ABs in 2012. He would still cost nothing at this point since he has less than 150ABs. In 2013, Profar reached 308 ABs, for a total of 325. During the 2013 season, Profar will remain at $0 cost. Profar would then be considered a Protected Prospect for 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 @ $500k each season.
Prospects can be acquired 4 ways:
- Inaugural Draft
- Future Year Player Draft
- Trade Aquisitions
- Signing Bonuses
There will be one designated signing periods during the Season. During this period(s), a GM can bid on a prospect using a Signing Bonus structure. Much like Free Agency, this will be done on a blind bidding structure, and priority list will be encouraged. Team with the highest bid will receive prospect. All Signing Bonus money comes straight of your $10 Million dollar Signing Bonus cap , and will stick with the team for the inclusion of the entire season. This cost of cap cannot be traded/transferred at anytime. Also during the season, any prospect that accumulates MLB Abs or IPS can be offered a signing bonus during the weekly free agent periods.
Example:
Team A Bids on Prospect B using the following format
Prospect B, SS
Signing Bonus = $650K
Amendment 8.1 - The minimum signing bonus that a player can be offered is $100K.
