Since Brant is facing a huge disadvantage taking over a team that has sever constraints, the TRP has made some successions to Brant and the Tennessee Smokies Roster. The following Transactions will be taking place as part of a Commish Exemption:
1. Cut Verlander 2. Cut Montero 3. Cut Stubbs 4. Cut Tabata 5. Cut Hicks 6. Cut De La Rosa (all are penalty free)
7. Reduce Lincum to 1 year (SP - Tim Lincecum 15:$5.1m) 8. Reduce Grilli to 2 years (RP - Jason Grilli 15:$3.5m, 16:$4m) 9. Reduce Romo to 2 years (RP - Sergio Romo 15:$4.25m, 16:$5.75m) 10. Reduce Jansen to 2 years (RP - Casey Janssen 15:$3.5m, 16:$4m)
These moves are not created to give the Smokies an advantage, but rather to remove a huge disadvantage he faces in joining the league. All 5 players cut above will be eligible to be bid on by the other 29 teams in the league.
Good luck to Brant and the new Smokies

I think Verlander and Montero should be held out of FA bidding until next year. Many teams have already spent their cap now on the understanding of certain FA likelihoods and these guys would never be in FA otherwise. Or at least only allow those guys to be signed to one year deals in FA now (and disallow tagging them) and then let bidding go longterm in the preseason when people have more cap.
I don't have a problem with the cuts and all. There was a crap predecessor manager there. Fair play to do this. So FWIW, just saying I think these are pretty decent FAs to throw back into the FA pool FOR BIDDING after many people have spent their cap.

Agree as well on those players being left out of FA bidding until next season.

I agree with Tim. One year deal for all of them with one exception. No limit on salary for 1year deals for those who got cut so that way is not going to be 1st come 1st served like giving Max $15M deal for 1 year. I am surprised you let him cut so many players but I do understand it.

$15M is a maximum we can offer to 1 year deals.
The maximum salary that maybe offered in a one year contract is 15M Average Annual Salaries between 15-18M must be offered a minimum of 2 years. Average Annual Salaries between 18-21M must be offered a minimum of 3 years. Average Annual Salaries between 21-25M must be offered a minimum of 4 years. Average Annual Salaries exceeding 25M annually must exceed 4 years in length, max length is 6 years.

missed De La Rosa in my discussions with Brant, so he is added as a cut as well.
I will discuss the likes of Verlander Montero and Company for the ability to play for the remainder of the year. Will announce a decision quickly

I have no cap room so my opinion on this is not swayed by personal gain. I don't have a problem with Verlander or Montero being made available for FA bidding since technically, any players waived at this point would be available to be bid on and the fact that Brant won't take a penalty has no bearing on others ability to have cap space to bid. Some people save cap for strategy in order to bid on waived players.
I do however think it would be a fair compromise to do what Tim suggests and allow these guys to only be bid on 1 year deals and not allowing them to be franchised.

Not sure any of them are worth a tag, so that is a moot point I think. Personally I see no difference between these cuts and the ones made by Tony last week.

We will allow for the following players to be bid on during FA season.
each deal is limited to a 1 year deal. However, the following rule will be put in place (this is exclusively for the below players:
A bid of any amount may be used to win the services of these players. However, if a bid exceeds $15 million (which is the current limitation for 1 year deals), that player is automatically deemed ineligible to be tagged this coming off-season. This eliminates the advantage of teams with a lot of cap space to capitalize longterm on a 1 year deal for a couple of players who "could perform above average production".
The Players: 1. Cut Verlander 2. Cut Montero 3. Cut Stubbs 4. Cut Tabata 5. Cut Hicks 6. Cut De La Rosa
This goes into effect immediately
