The league will be played through ESPN and require you to select a maximum of 25 players from your 55-man roster to be available for the competition portion of this league. The 25 players selected will be known as your “Major League Roster”. The 30 players not selected to remain on your “Major League Roster” will be assumed demoted to your "Minor League Roster". You will still own the rights to these players and they will be able to assist you in accumulating stats for your team as long as they are promoted. They will appear on your major league roster list on ESPN. If you decide to promote a player from your minor leagues to your major league roster you may do that easily on ESPN and do NOT need approval from the League Office.
Each of the 25 players named by you to be members of your “Major League Roster” will be included on your roster for ESPN and will be eligible to accumulate stats for your team. You will have the option of selecting the players to fill the following “active” positions on your roster. Only “active” positions will accumulate stats throughout the course of the season and determine how successful your team is. The active roster spots are as follows:
(3) Starting Pitchers
(3) Relief Pitchers
(3) Pitchers (Either SP or RP)
(1) Catcher
(2) CI (1B or 3B)
(2) MI (2B or SS)
(3) OF
(1) Utility (any position)
For a total of 18 active players
The other 7 guys on your ML roster will simply stay on your bench. The players may be moved in and out of the “active” position spots on a daily basis.
(2) DL spots will be available, however only players that are currently on the DL may be able to be placed on the DL. Once a player has come off the DL in real life, he must also be placed back on the active roster with 48 hours. Failure to do so is an illegal roster, and all statistics beyond that 48 hour period will be void until all active roster obligations are fulfilled.
The statistical categories that will be tabulated to determine the league champion each year are split into two major areas. Pitching and hitting. The categories are as follows:
* Pitching – Quality Starts, Saves, Holds, Strikeouts, ERA, WHIP
* Hitting – Runs, HR's, RBI's, Stolen Bases, Batting Average, OPS
This is a 12- category roto league. This format has been created to optimize the activity and chatter in the league and to promote trading between teams. At the conclusion of Ruthian Roto's regular season, the 4 highest teams in each division will continue into playoffs if a H2H format. The end of the season and playoffs dates will be determined at the beginning of each season.
